When should my child first see a pediatric dentist?

Do you accept dental insurance?
We are considered out-of-network with dental insurance providers.
We have chosen not to contract directly with insurance companies so that we can provide treatment recommendations based solely on your child’s needs.
We are happy to submit claims on your behalf, and many families still receive reimbursement directly from their insurance company.
Is out-of-network care more expensive?
Not necessarily.
Many parents are surprised to learn that our fees are often comparable to, and sometimes lower than, offices that are contracted with insurance plans.
Because we are not adjusting fees based on varying reimbursement structures, our pricing remains consistent and transparent.
What happens at my child’s first visit?
Your child’s first visit is designed to be positive and pressure-free.
We may adjust the pace of the appointment depending on your child’s comfort level. A successful visit does not always mean completing every step of a routine cleaning.
Our priority is building trust and creating a calm introduction to dental care.
What if my child is anxious about the dentist?
Dental anxiety is common, and we approach it with patience and understanding.
We use child-friendly language and a tell-show-do method to help children feel comfortable. For children who need additional support, we offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and hospital-based general anesthesia when appropriate.
Every recommendation is individualized.
Do you treat children with special healthcare needs?
Yes.
Caring for children with special healthcare needs is a long-standing commitment of our practice. We routinely modify scheduling, adjust appointment length, and adapt the environment to reduce sensory stress.
We also coordinate hospital-based care when necessary to ensure safety and comfort.
Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Yes.
We use low-radiation digital X-rays and take a conservative approach to imaging. X-rays are recommended only when clinically appropriate based on age, risk level, and development.
Protective aprons and thyroid shields are always used.
What are dental sealants, and does my child need them?
Sealants are protective coatings placed on molars to help prevent cavities.
We evaluate each child individually to determine whether sealants are beneficial. Sealants are most effective when applied soon after permanent molars erupt.
Do you offer orthodontic treatment?
Yes.
We provide early-stage orthodontics, also known as Phase 1 orthodontics, to guide jaw growth and alignment while children are still developing.
Early intervention can often reduce the need for more extensive orthodontic treatment later.
What if my child needs oral surgery?
We perform many surgical procedures in our office. For more complex cases or when general anesthesia is recommended, we coordinate hospital-based treatment.
