BOARD CERTIFIED PEDIATRIC DENTIST – PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE

What is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist? A pediatric dentist is a dentist who has completed an American Dental Association accredited graduate program in the specialty of pediatrics. A dentist who graduates from a specialty program in pediatrics is eligible to become board certified through the voluntary examination process of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Involvement in the certification process is a demonstration of the pediatric dentist’s desire to pursue proficiency and excellence. To be on staff at most hospitals, this is now required.

The certification process involves a thorough written examination covering all areas of information on which a pediatric dental specialist should be knowledgeable. Once the written exam is passed, the second step is to pass a vigorous oral examination. After successful passage of these phases, the candidate is required to submit case histories demonstrating ‘real life’ treatment. Upon completion of these steps, the pediatric dental specialist is granted ‘board certified’ status. Not all pediatric dentists are ‘board certified’.
